With a tired space set over three separate floors, it was easy to see why our clients Michael Kors were in need of a makeover. Deciding to relocate rather than refurbish, the new single floored space offered ample opportunity to achieve their goal of a more collaborative hub that not only represented their brand, but fully embodied it. First and foremost, the design style needed to mirror the Michael Kors product - elegant, timeless and high end...
Initially acquired as consultants for the space, we undertook a 6 month workplace exercise which involved speaking with different stakeholders within the business to really understand what they wanted for their London HQ. This data enabled us to build a report for the client, advising on the best design features that should be considered to tick those boxes and showcase how this would look.
Once presented, the client asked us to continue working on the project, along with our architect sister’s, Anomaly, who led the charge in the first phase of the project. Working closely with the London, Milan and New York Michael Kors teams, they were asked to develop a design that reflected the global brand and blend this with classic London features. From the data we collated, the space was to be across one floor and needed to include a large breakout space, private rooms, meeting rooms, a show gallery and also a private ‘retail’ space for executive clients to showcase new lines.
For the next phase of this project, we stepped in for the fit and build. The look and feel of the space needed to be first and foremost on brand, but with a neutral colour palette that incorporated high end finishes. We added Bolon and timber floors throughout, crittall glazing to give that ‘shop front’ feel and used statement light fixtures in each space. With striking Michael Kors imagery peppered throughout the space in large light boxes, the finished space is light and airy, classic, on brand and is the perfect environment for people to collaborate, develop ideas together and build company culture.
